This required pre-service training covers the foundational knowledge every Texas child care professional needs before working with children — from basic care requirements across all age groups to child abuse reporting, appropriate discipline practices, and communicable disease protocols. Available virtually and in person, this module is designed to get your staff fully compliant and confidently prepared from the start.

About This Course

Hours Earned: 8

Texas law requires all child care staff to complete pre-service training before they begin working with children — and this module is where that compliance begins. Designed for both new hires and administrators establishing onboarding standards, Pre-service Module 1 walks participants through the essential knowledge areas mandated by Texas Health and Human Services, including basic care requirements for infants through school-age children, recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect, appropriate guidance and discipline strategies, and preventing the spread of communicable diseases.

At Emergent ED, we go beyond checkbox compliance. Our instructors bring direct, real-world experience as former child care center owners and operators, so the content is grounded in what actually happens in a licensed Texas child care setting. Whether your team joins us virtually or in person, every participant leaves with a clear understanding of their professional responsibilities and the confidence to put that knowledge to work on day one.

This training is recognized and accepted as meeting Texas HHS pre-service requirements for licensed child care centers, licensed homes, and registered homes.

What You Will Learn

  • Basic Care Requirements — Age-appropriate care practices for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children; developmental considerations and safe supervision standards
  • Child Abuse and Neglect — Recognizing the signs of abuse and neglect, mandatory reporting obligations under Texas law, and how to respond appropriately
  • Discipline and Guidance — Positive, developmentally appropriate guidance techniques; prohibited discipline practices under Texas licensing standards
  • Communicable Diseases — Prevention, recognition, and response protocols for common communicable illnesses; exclusion policies and reporting requirements
